Who am I?
I have been named many things, but lately I have been the Manager of User Experience Design at
Harris Corporation for broadcast and digital signage products. Unfortunately, its quite a mouthful and my family and friends still question what I do. Titles aside, I am a Graphic Designer who loves the web, design, technology and things that are enjoyable to use. I am the type of designer who can’t stop from thinking of how to better a design, whether it’s the self-serve checkout process or critiquing a restaurant menu, designers are always on the job.
What I do
My Current role at Harris places me responsible for the design, development and feature maintenance of over 12 market products in the Broadcast and Digital Signage industry. Harris Inscriber Graphics sells hardware systems for broadcasters (Character Generators) to create and playout graphic content to air (2D/3D - HD). It is a very exciting place to work, especially when everyone can see your end product on TV. Harris provides a great work environment with the opportunity to work on many cutting edge projects with some very talented people. I have spent a lot of time at Harris selling usability and design and had some big wins. It has been extremely challenging being a 1 -2 person in house design firm, and after a few years we have the executive buy-in and are very busy designing and building next generation user interfaces for an even wider line of products.
What I Love
I am a family man through-and-through. I enjoy spending most of my time with my wife and kids. However, when I am not hanging out with them, you can often find me out deep in the bush riding on my mountain bike or commuting through the city on my Road Bike. I also consider myself to be an amateur handyman who loves renovation projects and trim work. I have to admit that decks, fences and sheds get me excited.
